Lynda and Fred Travels
Well today we explored the goats track...that is a 5 hour drive north and west of windemere where we discovered what narrow roads actually are....at one point we had to back up a kim to let another car through! We managed to follow the map but Lynda loves exploring back roads so we got lost in some unreal places as well...thank goodness for the tom tom! The scenery is just spectacular....btw weather over here is hot, hot, hot! We went by at least 6 big lakes and many small dams. Rolling hills/mountains, lots and lots or stone fences and sheep and just beautiful views wherever you looked. We went north to Glenridding where we had a coffee on the beach watching the Ulswater Steamer tour tourists on lake Ulswater. We then headed north to Pooley Bridge and west to Keswick....Keswick was full of tourists and absolutely no parking...tried going thru town twice but any parking was literally miles away! I took a tour of the stone houses in the back of the village where we first got lost...but some some awesome stone houses! Then we went south to Seatoller and through the Honister Pass which was awesome...unreal even! Stopped in a cute little place in Buttermere for lunch then north by Crummock water and on to Braithwaite....here we got lost again and ended up down the narrowest most scenic road....but oops 2 cars can't pass and we had to back up to let a local pass! Great fun! Then back to Keswick...again no parking so moved on to windemere via Thiremere Water and Ambleside. We then strolled up to Windemeremere shops, had a good look around and a drink on avenue. Then Fred had a rest and I walked down to Bowness and had a heavenly hours deep tissue massage....which I have needed so bad for days as my back and neck and shoulders were killing me! Just heaven....walked back up the long hill (20 minutes) and had a beautiful dinner at our hotel which only has dinners on Saturday night! Best home made bread and tomato soup I have ever eaten! And of course the steak and chips were nice too!
