Got up a bit late as booked in afternoon trip to Milford sound....last day in Wanaka today! Had a stroll along the waterfront, breakfast outside viewing the wonderful lake wanaka, filled up with fuel as long drive tomorrow and did a bit of shopping! Life is wonderful! Well at 1:30 we boarded the 6 seater aircraft and flew over the mountain ranges to Milford Sound....what a beautiful view...pretty scary....climbed up very fast and landing was very small and we just made it! We saw Mount Cook in the distance but flew over the Mt Aspiring National park. Mt Aspiring is next highest mountain to mt cook! Just awesome Waterfalls were 500 metres and 3 times higher than Niagara Falls... They had an earthquake this morning at 4.5 rector scale....the earthquakes obviously make the mountains higher! The fiords such as Milford Sound are all created by avalanches from the mountains It rains 182 days of the year in Milford sound....that is virtually every second day! No wonder we had to wait 3 days for weather to be clear!
