LINDA'S TALES OF TRAVEL AND OTHER CATASTROPHES
Hi Everyone
I have taken a new job with International Student Volunteers which involves travelling around to different universities in Europe promoting their programs. I get travel and accommodation expenses paid which is pretty cool.
The first 2 weeks of the job we trained in Epping Forest (Zone 6 London). Yeah, so basically we were locked up in a dodgy backpackers in a forest in the middle of the woods for a weeks. Bad showers, no TV and lots of hard work! On the bright side I was surrounded by young people from Ireland, England, Australia, New Zealand, Austria and Canada...and most of them were guys ;) Seriously though, the people I trained with were really amazing people and it made the experience one I'll never forget!
Last week my partner (Vibi) and I were in Liverpool - home of the Beatles. The people there were good fun and seemed to go out every night! The nightlife was as eccletic as the people, and we managed to stumble into some very dodgy 80s clubs...hmmm.
The Liverpool University wasn't very helpful...far from in fact so our week was a bit tough. The students were really nice though which kind of made up for it. We also had to change accommodation 3 times owing to 2 big football (soccer) matches.
This week we have been based in Stoke-on-Trent. It is a little town in the middle of nowhere...lots of grass and sheep! On the bright side we managed to negotiate a 4 star hotel down £20 on their room rates per night so we are staying in an awesome place with buffet breakfast in the morning!
On Sunday we made the trip to Alton Towers to amuse ourselves as there is not much here. It is a huge amusement park like Dreamworld but with cooler rides for adults. We had an awesome time there (although I'm still trying to put my organs back into the right places!).
Once again had a few administration run-ins at the uni here but by mid week had sorted it out and I am now in the Careers Centre at Staffordshire University waiting to run an information meeting.
Tonight I am off to Ireland and will spend the week at Trinity College in Dublin! Very exciting...may even get a chance to trace the family roots - if everything works out this time that is!
