LINDA'S TALES OF TRAVEL AND OTHER CATASTROPHES
We arrived in Barcelona on Thursday morning on an onvernight train from Paris. After dumping our luggage at the hostel (yes, that's right, this time we actually had luggage and the reservation was still valid!) we explored our surroundings. We stayed right in the middle of Barcelona just off the famous (infamous perhaps?!) Las Ramblas where they have all sorts of crazy stalls and buskers. It's amazing that so many people actually get money from dressing up in bizarre costumes!
After having finally picked up a bit of French in Paris I struggled with to pick up much Spanish here. I just couldn't get the French responses out of my head! Funnily enough, while many people voluntarily spoke to us in English in Paris, the Spaniards (despite seeming to know what we were saying) would respond in long bouts of Spanish at us anyway ha ha. It really was a strange but amusing experience! Anyway we bumbled ouy way through somehow.
My favourite sites in Barcelona were the Sagrada Familia (of course) and the Parc Gruel - both (unfinished) creations of Gaudi's weird and wonderful imagination. I was struck by just how much of the Sagrada Familia is yet to be completed...in fact I don't think anyone knows when or if they'll ever get there? It's amazing to think that a craftsman could work on the cathdral their whole life and not see it even nearing completion!
Barcelona has a very lively vibe but is completely different to Paris. Unfortunately Will and I were too b*****ed to investigate the nightlife properly but there's always next time!
Oh, and just to rub it in, the temperature has been in the 30s this whole week in Paris and Barcelona and I actually have a tan already ;) he he...sorry couldn't resist.
