Sunday 18th December - Having a few problems with accommodation since it is so close to Christmas. When we arrived at Surfers we were limited with places to stay, as a result we spend one night in a hostel tonight and tomorrow go elsewhere. Spent the day on the beach and on the internet since we hadn't booked anywhere to stay for Christmas! Whoops! All sorted now though! We then went into town and had a meal and a few drinks. Few clubs here but a bit like a fresher's week at uni. Surfers is a great place with the best beaches ever but quite similar to Cairns, a lot of Australians spend the holidays here so it gets really busy. Monday 19th December - Had the worst nights sleep in the world's worst hostel! Even though we were out drinking the people that came in after us were up talking until 5.30am! We paid more money for this hostel and all we had was a bed - ripped off! However, Spent the morning on the beach dipping our feet in the warm water and occasionally getting drowned by a 'narly' wave. Then caught the bus from Surfers Paradise to Byron Bay, which took around two hours. Once in Byron we had to find somewhere to stay so we managed to find a hostel for the night. Nevertheless, Byron is really expensive adding around an extra $20 to accommodation. It was a fun hostel but that night we walked down the road and found a cheap motel - hostels are getting so expensive here that backpackers are staying in motels!
