Lucy's Travels
Monday 29th January - Left Queenstown early and made our way to Milford Sound. It was a bit of a drive there so we stopped briefly in a town called Te Anau for a bite and a loo stop and then continued our drive. There are lots of donation camp sites along the way, which are vital since there are no camping parks to stop at. However, when we reached the Milford Sound all that was there was a dock and petrol was running low! The next camp site back was an hour away. By this point we were needing petrol. We saw a sign for 'emergency petrol' and trundled down the road for 10km to find it. When we reached the end of the road there was a little piecie of land with a couple of huts and an old, painted petrol can! We managed to fill about a quater of a tank, which we were hoping would get us to Milford agian in the morning and then all the way back again to Te Anau (its a one way road there and back). We stayed the night on this piece of land where the man had a small bathroom and a generator to tap into electricity. There was a fire for hot water. The sand flies were a nightmare! There was also a cute river just behind the land where Dan and I ventured over jade rocks to have a paddle.
Tuesday 30th January - Made our way to the Milford Sound. It poured down with rain and I was so greatful for the 2 pound rainmacks I had bought from Primark for us both! The Milford Sound was really pretty, saw sea lions and waterfalls! Then made our way back to Te Anau but petrol was very low. We just about made it to the petrol station with our petrol light being on for 50min! That was a bit scary. We then followed our friends Jennie and Shaun to Gore and stayed the night there.
Wednesday 31st January - Had to stay the day in Gore so I could go to the doctors - have lost my medicine bag with my maleria tablets in!!! We then made our way to Dunedin.
