Hi everyone.
I'm writing now because I should be off to Emau with Tukae tomorrow, and then my blogs will become less frequent. I'm still having an amazing time, although getting 2 little people up and ready for school at 6 in the morning is tiring me out! Thursday is Aisha's day off anyway, so the other girl is coming this evening. I will still be there of course, it just won't be my job to do the cooking and so on. She scares me a bit, I don't think she likes me!
Things are still going on much the same as they have been. I got very cross yesterday because Christopher bought his homework back from school and i began to see the sort of things they do. It's a fee paying, english medium school but the teachers' english is appalling, and the work they are expected to do is ridiculous! Christopher had maths homework to do and it took him an hour and a half. He's 8! He had pages of divisions written down to do, but had never been taught a method to do it. He doesn't know times tables, and they aren't allowed to write down workings out. Lyn and I are going to go through all their books tonight and she's going to go and have a talk with the school. I helped christopher through all the sume, encouraging him to say his times tables allowed. He tried so hard I let them watch the whole of mary poppins again afterwards (!)
I wish I could teach out here. I feel like I could do it better already than the staff these poor kids are getting. The english teacher just puts ticks next to everything! And all the science work was wrong.. whether because the teacher just didn't know, or thehis english was very bad I don't know.
Anyway, that's more than enough of me moaning for you! On the plus side they love their new building, and yesterday they got very excited because we put the new curtains up. The chain on alphans bike is broken, so they both ride round on christophers.. they look very funny!
I will write as soon as I can from Emau, but it may be a while. This is already my fifth week away from home, I'll be back in no time at all!
I almost forgot to mention.. it rained last night. I mean really poured down! It was great (the short rains that were supposed to come in december time haven't come here for 5 years, so the area really needed it) the boys didn't quite know what to think, I had to go and get them my rain coat to stick over their heads before they would leave the building. The rain smell really made me think of home. It's funny. to have gone a month without rain!
Missing you all, lots of love xxxx
