We got a bus from Nazca to Ica after we had our fill of sunbathing.
We then got a taxi to Huacachina which is a tiny town around an oasis in the middle of the desert! We found a great hostel called santaterria which had really cheap rooms. We booked our sandboarding trip for the next afternoon and then went to find some dinner.
The next morning we walked around the town and looked at the various market stalls they had. We then found a lovely place for lunch with great cocktails which we made the most of in the sun! Our sandboarding was at 4.15pm so we headed back to the hostel and met our group.
There were 4 others with us, all from the uk. We set off in the sandbuggy which is sort of a jeep with a cage around it - hard to describe! We drove out to the dunes which surround the town. they are huge! We were strapped in tightly which was just as well as the we flew up and down these dunes which were about 200m high. It felt like being on a roller coaster! It was so much fun! After about 20 minutes we stopped and got out the sandboards.
We started on the smaller dunes to build up our confidence. None of us had done snow boarding before so we all went down on our stomachs. We waxed the board to make them go faster and then you control your speed by putting ur feet in the sand or lifting them up.
After a few goes we all tried standing up but it wasnt that successful as we couldnt get the balance right! After an hour or so of boarding we headed back to the town as the sun had set and it was getting dark. We had sand everywhere and unfortunately didnt have time to shower before we got our bus to Lima!
