Thursday evening we returned home from town to find 30+ women from the village cooking and preparing for the party! They were dancing and having a great time. We even heard Babu was dancing also.
Friday was the day of celebration. We also learned that it was a National Holiday in Tanzania. Unfortunately, I have forgotten what holidayJ We awoke early and the ladies from the village and the family had been up for hours already getting everything ready for the wedding party! I was informed that as the Mgole (bride) I wasn't allowed to leave my room until the party. Ha! I did bend the rules a little and go to the living room for tea and mandazi. Then Abella and I painted our nails to pass the time.
They constructed a huge tent from bamboo, canvas and fabric in the front yard. They even built a stage out of wood for Mutta and I, along with Benny and Susanne. It was an amazing sight. The choir from the Lutheran church came to sing. All the children from the village who have been performing for me every day, also sang and danced for everyone. There were prayers and songs and food and lots and lots of dancing. They even roasted an entire goat for the party!
I am overwhelmed and humbled by the amount of time and effort everyone put into this party for Mutta and I. During the party we received many gifts of kongas (a fabric cloth women wear), clothing, money, and a goat and three chickens!!!!
The goat and 3 chickens were from Mutta's parents (who have been married for 57 years I believe!). They wouldn't fit in the car, so we will leave them for the family to enjoy.
It was very sad to say goodbye to everyone this morning as we begin our journey back to Dar es Salaam. We had such an amazing time here and I will miss each and every one of them dearly. Many tears were shed this morning, but they are also tears of joy for the love we have felt while in Bukoba.
