We are sorry it took so long to update. We have had limited internet access, but are excited to share our last couple of days with you all.
We began two days of Safari on Monday with our guide Andrew. We began our journey in the Ngorongoro crater. Before we entered, Andrew had to get our pass for the day. We were excited to see lots of Baboons running around until they tried to get our lunches. Don't worry though, Mary Anne fought them off and only ended up with a minor scratch and bruise. We entered the crater and were blown away by the beauty. We got up close and personal with zebras, lions, gazelles, elephants, wildebeests, ostriches, and many types of monkey, flamingos, and many others. We enjoyed riding in the Land Cruiser with the top up. After the adventures we headed back up the crater for another adventure. The Land Cruiser had a little trouble making it back up the hill so we got out and prayed. Prayers were answered and we eventually made it to our Ngorongoro Wildlife lodge. We were greeted with hot towels and juice upon arrival to the hotel. We felt like kings. We spent some time taking in the view of the crater on the deck and taking lots of pictures. A shower felt very nice after being in the dusty car all day.
The next morning we were up early to enjoy our second day of Safari and our trip through the Serengeti. We saw more zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, and finally found our giraffes. The giraffes were very majestic and darker in color than the pictures we have seen. It was an amazing sight. The ride was a bit rough but we tried to imagine we were getting a massage. We made it to Mwanza just in time to get on the boat to Bukoba. We were not sure what to expect with the boat and we definitely had an experience. We had six people and seven plus bags stuffed into a 6x8 "cabin". We are happy for the experience but don't feel like we have to do that again.
We were very very very happy to get off the boat at 6:30 when we arrived at the Bukoba port. We enjoyed some time in town, picked up a few supplies, and headed to Mutta's parents house. It was a very emotional homecoming as it was the first time that Abella (Abela - as she has decided it will now be spelled after her Aunt) had met her grandparents. "Bibi", her grandmother, was very excited to see Abela and wanted to keep her close. We enjoyed each others company, painted all the girl's nails, and helped the kids color and paint. We visited an elementary school and donated some soccer balls (compliments of Nancee Winner). The kids were so excited and even practiced their English for us. Later we enjoyed a nice dinner, then prayed with Bibi and Babu and when to bed.
Today we visited the Shine of our Lady of Lourdes. It is a site that many miracles and visions of Mary occurred in the 1950's. It is now a beautiful church. Every October, thousands of people gather at the site to pray and celebrate the miracles that have occurred there.
Currently, we are at the Lake Hotel in downtown Bukoba. We just had a delicious lunch of Tilapia (head still on), caught fresh from Lake Victoria.
