One of the other things we visited today was the Alamo. I was surprised by the size of the building itself; it's tiny! It's hard to believe so few people defended this building all that time ago. Unfortunately, the area surrounding the Alamo is now smothered in tourist traps (okay, so I may have gone into several of the Ripley's Believe It or Not attractions...they're called tourist traps for a reason), raving religious lunatics ("There is still time for the Lord to save you from your wicked ways!"), and sno-cone carts (quite necessary as the heat soared to a balmy 103 degrees Farenheit). Inside, the building was crowded making it difficult to read the signs and learn much at all, but the surrounding gardens and historical society people were, however, quite interesting. In all, the building itself is beautiful, but perhaps there are better times to see it than on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of July.
