The next day was Sunday and we were heading to Wanaka and it was very wet when we left Christchurch. We stopped at riccarton bush for our next kiwi guardians challenge. The bush was a wonderful place with lots of cheering chirping birds, and amazing curly vines. It had lots of tall kahikatea trees. We bounced out of bed and stuffed down a quick breakfast before jumping in the car and heading off to the ferry. Even that was exciting as we came across a car driving the wrong way up Paremata road! The ferry trip was super smooth, you hardly knew the boat was moving, and we didn't get blown away on deck for once. Our flight went super fast because everyone slept... And we caught a jet stream that shaved 1.5 hours off the flying time. A few rough patches, including a lightning storm, but not a bad flight overall, and we touched down in Auckland in the rain and dark at 5.30am. A slight car park issue as the machine didn't recognise our card and wasn't going to let us out, but we got it sorted and were on our way. About to board ...still raining, and still some flashes of lightning too...gulp! Gemma nearly couldn't go because the system had her recorded as a baby!!! Luckily the helpful air Nz person sorted it all out. Mum did a crazy dance routine with us to make the people watching the cctv laugh. Our mum is pretty crazy. Talk to you from the other side !
