I arrived later that afternoon in Tokyo, where I took the train to meet my Danish friend from Australia Sine. I had been looking so much forward to see a familiar face, and not the least to see a Danish person again. Sine and I are quite likeminded in many aspects, so every single night when we got to bed, we spent at least an hour debating our world situations (aka boys) and this was the best part of my Tokyo adventure. Off course I got to sightsee a lot of places and tried different Japanese dishes and I could probably write a couple of pages about that. However, my experience and view of Tokyo was skewed by me coming straight from Seoul, which had become a familiar and well known place. In the beginning, I therefore kept comparing those 2 cities and in this comparison, Seoul was always the winner as it was something I knew. It took my quite a few days to get rid of the need to compare so it wasn´t until the last couple of days, I was really able to enjoy Tokyo for being Tokyo. But hey, that just gives me a reason to come back, preferably with an empty suitcase and heaps of money. Even though Tokyo is perceived as one of the biggest shopping destinations, their fashion is so extreme in different directions that I would choose a shopping spree holiday in Seoul anyday. Their fashion is really really good, they just have an eye for putting together things, you would never have thought of and make it look great. Yet again another comparison. But it will often be the case, when you live in another country for a longer period of time - I have become Koreanised!
Saturday I came back to Brisbane, just to drop of me things and go straight to Byron Bay to party and to tan… much much needed - the tanning that is. After a whole day in the sun, we finished our little Korea reunion in Byron Bay with a birthday dinner for Matt - the guy who couldn´t celebrate his own birthday in Seoul as he had swine flu. Then back to Brisbane, where I crashed my German friend Meike´s place. What better way to finish the week, than to go out for more drinks. So 5 of us went to the Normanby Hotel for some drinks to sleep on. Then Monday the crazy room-hunting started. First Piere, my French friend, and I went to see a place in Woolloongabba, but they only had one room available, which Piere got. But later that day I had a viewing of a place in the Valley. It was love at first sight, mainly due to the huge build-in closet in my room that would just be perfect for all the shopping I had done in Seoul. So yes now my wardrobe is starting to take up the size it had back in Denmark! How do I do it? First step is to admit you have an addiction and then you can choose if you want to do something about it. I have chosen not to J Luckily the 2 kiwi ladies living here thought it was a perfect match as well, so I moved in to my new place Tuesday morning. Pictures will follow soon.
So the last couple of days have been spend on unpacking (not completely done) and starting uni again and all those nitty gritty things, one have to take care of coming back from a longer trip. My list is still long but I´m sure I will complete it soon.
Before going to Seoul, I feel in love with Brisbane and while times were tough in Korea, I longed desperately for Brisbane. Maybe I have put Brisbane on a pedestal but it will be interesting to find out over the coming weeks. I love being back, but the weather I have so longed for is not quite here. It has rained almost non-stop since I came back, so I am still whiter than white. It has been great seeing friends again and I have realized I have some great friends at uni. What´s more is that I have made some great friends in Seoul and I know I will continue to see them, hey I already have a couple of times and I have not even been back one week. So despite my worries of coming back to nothing, I feel I have come back to even more than I left and I am full of positivity and anticipations for this coming semester.
