We leave Munich and on our way out of town visit Dachau Concentration Camp. As we retrace the steps of so many who lost their lives there a stillness feels the air, it is as if we are the only ones moving while the rest of the world stands still. A part of history that will never be forgotten.
We travel thorugh Germany along the Rhine river to a town called St. Goar. St. Goar reminds us of Florence in Italy - they look nothing alike but both are untouched by the commercial giants. St. Goar is the home of beer steines, teddy bears and birkenstocks. All of the local products were purchased by the travelling tourists and an evening meal was enjoyed in the local pub.
We retire for the night to a local hotel that is situated in a tiny street amoung local houses the only way of knowing it is a hotel is by someone pointing out the door first. Standing in the streets before the sun sets for the day the only sound you can hear is the sound of your own breathe and the sound of the Rhine river flowing in the distance. This is the Germany that is loved no hustle and bustle of Munich just conversation with locals who go out of their way to make Australians feel very much at home.
