Catching the metro from the airport to the city fairly easy. Finding our way from the station to our hotel???? Not so easy but after a greek/english conversation that I understood about half of a lovely man had drawn out direction which got us there in 5 minutes. We headed out for dinner in the Plaka district and enjoyed great food, conversation and entertainment, for the night we were all Greek.
We head out to the Port of Piraeus to board our ship The Aquamarine. We begin the day by eating as much as we can at the lunch buffet and in the afternoon we head to the Island of Mykonos with very narrow streets and even whiter buildings.
We awak and are back in Turkey so I head off the ship for a short stroll through the local bazaar and stock up on my apple tea. The afternoon is spent in Patmos where Eucalypt and gum trees cover the Island and the whole time spent walking reminds me of home. We visit The Grotto of St. John where the book of revelation was written and the Monastery of the Apolcalypse and after hours of walking and snapping photos we head back to our ship.
An early morning awaits us as we head to Rhodes and Lindos. Water is scarce and the views spectacular the green and blue waters hug the coastline and the pebbled streets lead you in and out of several different parts of town. Rhodes is surrounded by walls, turrented gateways and towers the lead you through this amazing town. We then frock up for the Captains Ball and enjoy drinks and dinner on the captain.
Crete is just a few metres away but rough seas send me back to bed to sleep so I am fit and well for Santorini in the afternoon. My time spent in bed really did pay off because there is no place in the world like Santorini, to the volocanos who created this beautiful island I say thank-you. Words cannot begin to describe the Island so I will let the pictures do the talking.
We leave our ship today and return to Athens to spend one last day in the sun. With our local guide Anaa we visit Zeus Palace, The Partenon, The Acropolis, The Olympic Stadium and many more sights. It is amazing to walk through a modern city and around the corner run into history dating back so far. A city park calls our name and we spend the afternoon laying beneath the sun and getting to know the local dogs and cats that Greee has adopted.
