What does evey girl want for their birthday.....? A trip to Paris would definitely go down well and this year no more wishing Paris is less than 2 hours away and I intend to take full advantage of it !
My first trip on the Eurostar and I slept most of very quick trip. After some hesitation my international gut kicks in and the sights and sounds of Paris come back to me. We find our hotel only to find our room has been given to someone else???? New room provided, bed to sleep in! Yah!
So what to do with a full day in Paris...3 weeks before Christmas? A late breakfast in a road side cafe while sipping hot coffee and watching the locals arrive at and leave street markets. Then off to see the inside of the Notre Dame...the Bell chamber will have to wait til tomorrow as they are not letting anyone else up today. So instead we head to a little ol' art museum called the Lourve...where we run into the likes of Mona Lisa...who is a lot smaller in real life but boy does she attract a crowd!
Lunch is a HUGE slice of Pizza as I am impressed that I can order that in any language is each country LOL
A late evening stroll through the streets of Paris...where we walk from the Latin Quarter to the Eiffel Tower winding in and out of colourful street that are lined with Christams carts...hot Churros fill our tummies and warm us up and we continue to stroll down the perfectly lit streets. The atmosphere at Christmas is so different from the Paris I remember from Summer...but for the first time in a long time I am actually enjoying the lead up to Christmas...soaking in the joys and sights a White Christmas offers.
A little later another climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower is completed...every last step! The night time Paris looks amazing...I love winter in Paris!
On Sunday we head to Notre Dame this time to climb the bell tower...we get there nice and early to secure our place in line, while ordering crepes from the stall across the street...in French!! I always remember the food words the best
We board the metro to take us out to find Jim Morrisons grave and after many attempts run in to a "grave digger" who leads us through the windy paths past many other famous graves: Chopin, Oscar Wilde and finally Jim Morrison. At times we did think we might end up in a grave this man was pretty dodgy but luckily for us at the end of the trip 5 euros was the only asking price!
Across town to the Arc de Triomphe and a stroll down Champs Elyse, where we stumble across the best bathrooms we have used in any country. We had an attendant clean the toilet completely before the next person uses it and each cubicle has its own theme...be it spots, the ocean, jungle, Rock n' Roll!!!!! Love It!
Not much time now til we leave on the Eurostar...the joys of train travel above Plane 15min check-in before departure so we get to squeeze every second out of the Paris experience.
