We started our last day in Ljubljana by joining a free walking tour of the city, which is the second time that we've joined such a tour on this trip. Free tours are a great way for people on all different types of budgets to learn about the city they're visiting by getting some firsthand local knowledge. Guides work on a tips only basis, so you only pay what you think the tour is worth. A great concept all around. Today's guide not only gave us a great feel for the city we've been exploring over the past few days, but she also helped to provide some perspective on the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia and how these events shaped the current political layout of this region.
After walking up an appetite, we went for a taste of traditional Slovenian food, which included the hearty venison goulash being enjoyed here (note the special pot-holder complete with tea-light to keep everything hot and delicious). And if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, on our way home we were stopped near the main square by a friendly gentleman who overheard our English (my English), and asked if he could interview us for a weekly program that looks at Ljubljana from the perspective of visitors. Luckily we'll be in Hungary by the time we reach celebrity status.
