Yesterday we were up, had breakfast and were ready to check out by mid-day. We left the hostel and walked down the street, lugging our backpacks, to catch a bus to the coach station. Once at the station we managed to secure seats back to Santiago on the 12.50pm bus. The journey was just an hour and a half and the bus was really comfy so we slept most of the way! We arrived back in Santiago shortly before 2.30pm and used the metro to try and get to Hostal de Sammy. Once off the metro we had to walk for what seemed like miles to get to the hostel - upon arriving we still managed to walk straight past it!
Once we had checked in, we headed to the supermarket for provisions, then, back at the hostel, did 2 massive loads of washing, long overdue! We spent the evening watching Juno and eating smores!
This morning we enjoyed a breakfast of banana pancakes before faffing around and finally leaving the hostel around 1.00pm. We walked into the city, stopping to browse at the street stalls, before calling for lunch at the Mercado Central (fried chicken and salad for Bella and Sarah, seafood consomme for Laura). Once we had finished and were walking through the market, then men from the stalls started jeering at us and laying their aprons on the floor for us to walk on like royalty and sweeping in front of our feet. We may have been flattered had they not been over 50 years old! We then headed across the river towards the funicular, calling at the fruit market and a few more shops along the way.
We finally arrived at the funicular around 4.30pm only to discover it was closed for maintenance! Oh well we would try again tomorrow. So we headed back towards the hostel, a few more shop stops along the way before calling at the supermarket. Once back at the hostel it was after 7.00pm and we chilled out watching Blades of Glory before bed.
