This morning we had a bit of a lie-in and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before showering and leaving the hostel after mid-day (after Laura had rushed down to the laundrette, only to be told our washing wouldn´t be ready for 2 and a half days!).
We walked back into Valparaiso, passing the Armada de Chile and the docks and towards our first accensor (lift). We walked along a road which had literally being dug up and left as a building site then had a brief look in the market, which was home to about 3 stalls! We continued on and arrived at the lift, with Laura boarding and then realising that the door was shut behind her with Bella and Sarah on the other side! The short journey up the steep hill was a little rickety but the views were spectacular.
Once reunited at the top of the hill we browsed the small tourist market and enjoyed the views of the bay all the way across to Vina del Mar. We browsed the quaint streets and made our way back down the hill by the stairs before heading back towards the city centre. We then boarded our second lift of the day, Accensor Concepcion. The lift was just as rickety but the journey was slightly shorter. At the top we found ourselves in the heart of beautiful, picturesque Valparaiso. The streets were tiny and the houses so colourful, with graffiti art covering many walls and we found a labyrinth of alleys to walk along. You could get lost amongst the streets and passageways.
We called in a quiet cafe for a prawn and cheese empenada (Sarah and Bella) and a chicken and avocado sandwich (Laura), although we wasn't allowed a coffee to go with it (apparently only wine and beer was served with the snacks!).
Once replenished we wandered the streets more and then returned back down to street level. We went back to the docks for a bit of souvenir shopping then returned to the hostel, stopping for a chilled bottle of pisco sour on the way. We had a couple of glasses and once feeling tipsy we got glammed up ready for our posh meal.
We left the hostel just after 8.00pm and returned to Accensor Concepcion and back up the hill to Concepcion restaurant, where we sat on the terrace with twilight views over the bay. We enjoyed a gorgeous meal of spinach, artichoke, nut and chicken lasagne (Laura and Bella) and Breca fish with filo pastry, mushrooms and prawns (Sarah) all washed down with a bottle of vino! Our slap up meal, along with bread and coffee, came to around 12 quid each - including tip! Once we had finished we returned to the hostel and crashed out.
