We had beautiful weather for our excursion to Capri. Capri is the Roman word for goat, and Italians put the accent on the first syllable. Capri has a long history of human habitation, going back to the Greeks. The Roman Emporers made the island their Eden.
We booked through Cassiopeia for a tour for 12 "personae". There were newlyweds from Kansas, a couple from Seattle, a couple from Argentina... we met our Capitan at 9am and set off. The captain was quite knowledgeable but he did get quite frustrated when he had to say "Roman walls" six times before we understood.
We had a 2 hour tour around the island, viewing amazing inlets, coves, grottos, watchtowers, lighthouses, mansions with apparently no access but by water. El Capitan drove with his feet part of the time!
We saw the Blu Grotto (famous electric blue shimmer on the water) and the verde Grotto (green) and more. Often there was a line of boats waiting to go into a Grotto. Sailboats, motorboats, yachts, dinghies, you name it.
We arrived at Capri Marina Piccola at 11:30 and took a bus to the town of Capri. There are only two towns on the island, Capri and Anacapri. We thought that meant Capri, and Not Capri, but it's really Capri and Upper Capri.
There is a lot of shopping in the town of Capri and some lovely churches. We didn't buy anything but we did a sort of pub crawl. Vino and cheese in a roof top terrace. Then lunch at La Cisterna. The brothers who own this pizzeria were a hoot. See the picture on the wine bottle of Dolce Vita (Sweet Life).
At 2pm we headed back to the marina for a quick cosmo at the beach bar, then back on the boat for the journey home. Stopped on the way back for Prosecco at sunset. A lovely day.
