Karol, Cher, Mike and Jean met at the Toronto airport at 6 PM Friday night (5/25). Since we chose to treat ourselves to business class tickets we were able to hang out in the KLM Lounge until boarding (free wine and appys). We started boarding at 8:30 pm, and by 9:30 had glasses of Prosecco. We had dinner at 11 EST then movies (LaLaLand for Jean) then we stretched out to sleep. So wonderful!
Arrived in Rome at noon Roman time, six hours ahead of our time. Found our driver, Nello, and hopped aboard his van for the 4 hr trip to Positano. Usually it's 3 hours but we stopped for wine, cheese, bread and the ATM. Excellent Montepuciano wine from the truck stop for 10 Euros for 3 bottles! Might say something about our pedestrian tastes?
We passed Mount Cassino and Mount Vesuvius on our trip. Once past Naples we joined a lovely road along the coast which, while picturesque, was downright scary! Switchbacks and narrow roads along brick walls. Jean was too carsick to take good pics. But really, it could have been a carnival ride!
Arrived in Positano at 5pm or so. The AirB&B is gorgeous. La Fontenelle. We are almost at the top of the mountain with a panoramic view of the harbor from the tiled deck. On the deck are strawberry plants with ripe berries, basil, rosemary and lemon thyme and lots of other beautiful plants.
In the evening we had dinner at Da Constantino just a few steps away from our place. The owner, Luigi (pronounced "Weegie") renamed Jean to Gina. (Love it!). Food was wonderful.
We aren't sure where all the truck stop wine went that night but it was gone in the morning.
