Laura's Aussie Adventure!
Greetings from Melbourne!
I am happy to say that the train journey here wasn't as bad as the previous one! Only 2 nights this time and we got to change trains for the last day.
Melbourne seems pretty cool so far although I don't have that much to tell as we just arrived last night.
When we got here we didn't have any accommodation booked but we managed to get into this one which is right across from the train station. It is called All Nations. We are in an 8 bed dorm with 3 other girls - one Irish, one English and one Scottish - very multicultural huh?! We haven't met the Scottish girl yet but the other 2 are nice. The only bad thing about the hostel is that we are on the corner of a busy street in front of a train track, a tram line and a 24 hour supermarket so it is rather noisy!
Today we went to St Kilda which has a beach, a few unique shops and lots of cake shops and cafes! We just had to make time for the cakes as they were amazing!
In Melbourne much of the travel is by tram. We read in Michelle's Australia book that the trams are free but we discovered that they are not ... although we didn't pay anyway so they were to us!! Us backpackers have to budget, He, he!! It is also pretty cold here! We had a few days nice weather on our road trip and even managed to get sunburn but now we have the jackets and scarfs out again :0(
We are going out tonight to get drunk and have a boogie! This will be our first proper Saturday night out going to a club! I soooo can't wait!! I miss getting dressed up for a good night out (although we won't be all that dressed up)! Think we are going to go to St Kilda as that is supposed to be the best place for nightlife!
Will write more soon when I have more to tell. I can here the beers and wine calling me from the kitchen so I better dash!! ;0) xx
