1 word......sheeeep!!
Up at 6 am this morning to drive an hour and a half to a sheep farm near gore at Waikoikoi. The farm has over 2000 sheep, on a 420 acre area of land. I was ashamed at just how little i new about this area of expertise and so found it very interesting learning the processes they require to go through but also learning about new zealand's farming. The main thing was moving the sheep about, for the various processes today. The vet was in first to check the rams for this year, and the drafter is the person who comes in and works for the works company's to see that the sheep are the correct weight to go to the works. He just feels round there ribs to check the correct size and the one ready then get separated and crooksed( the dirt cliiped of there backend as the works require them to be more hygenic to reduce contamination of the meet), and the other's are put back into the feilds to fatten up. The sheep were also getting drenched, a concocshion of deworming solution and some nutritional supplements with stuf to help there stomachs breakdown the vegetation they are eating better. Ill try just about anything had a go at the drenching they can be quite stubborn those sheep. As for crookseding i think he they thought id loos my fingers after see my trip over the cable numerous times so i was just getting the sheep into the run and making sure the sheep went the right way after they got cleaned up.
This farm geographical was in a very good position and requires no irrigation becuase of the rain it recieves but also recieves sufficient sun aswell therefore paddocks are lush green, one farmer arived with 553 lambs as this farm has more felids than needed and so they are helping each other as where the lambs were coming from the climate is harsher and they have paddocks with not enough grass to really suffiently fatten these lambs up with.
It was a relativley busy day getting back at haf 8 this evening.
(mum there afew photo's in just for you to see if you remember any of the vehicles and buildings you saw when you worked hear)
