From above the world below-mountains and ice that you normaly look up at now to look down!
Sunday 14th, waking up hoping for a nice day, clouds present on the mountains but patches of that blue sky apearing. I made the phone call to the helicopter company and i was on for the helicopter flight at 9.30 am!! Yet again very very very excited and very lucky (thank you to a very generous carol and ross :):)). Making my way to the company, a very small town so only a short walk. This being my first time in a helicopter but to be able to have a flight above mountains and glaciers.
Lucky to have a window seat, as soon as the choper left the ground...i couldnt stop smiling! THe mountains with the sun hiting of them, met with the glaciers, clouds, and everything else you could see. How can it get any better. An experience i cannot possible forget or put into words at how happy i was, just seeing the scale of everything from the air and up close!
A 40minute flight, a sighting of franz joseph, over to fox, up to mount cook, veiwing mount tasmin, the tasmin glacier. When fist crossing the divide flying up to the ridge then droping down over it, to see those views, whit show, met with sharp rocks and mountain peeks and mountain ridges. Droping down to view glaciers, terminal lateral medial moraine, crevases, the different colouration, then landing at the top of the glacier. Ten minutes on the snow...speechless again. Getting back in the helicopter now with a seet in the front :):), i couldnt be more luckyer. It was just incredable make the most of every second as the 40minutes literally flys by!
I spent the rest of the day wrighting my journal and making some plans, the weather closed in a little and so it was perfect that i went first thing in the morning! It does pay to get up early and be organised.
Another thing id recommend in new zealand,.It really is becoming and i think has become another place that wants to hold onto me, i feel a return to this place!!
