Well I was up first again and spent some quiet time on the deck counting my blessings. It Ina supposed to rain today but the skies were clear and it was sunny and 26 degrees out at 9:00 a.m. And it continued to be sunny for the rest of the day.
Today we hit the local market and sampled some Mexican "street meat" (really yummy tacos).
All the locals go to this taco truck whose owners have been doing business in the same spot for 35 years. There were 8 different types you could choose from - various potato, pork, beef, chicken with several condiments you could add. The tacos here are quite small compared to the ones we make in Canada. We had 4 each. We then went to a market and bought some supplies and then drove down a street with a view of the ocean which was across the bay from where the condo is. We stopped for ceviche (pronounced seveechee) and guacamole and, of course, some cervezas at Mandinga Restaurant. We waded in the warm ocean while we waited for the food. The spot is owned by someone Claudia knows (I think she knows everyone in Cancun!) and is a local restaurant right on the beach with a gorgeous view of Isla Murjeres.
We made our way back to the condo and put on our suits to go for a walk on the beach. Claudia wasn't feeling well so it was just me and the guys. We walked about 2 km's oohing and aahing at the private homes on the beach and reveling in the opulence of the resorts. We had a swim at Paul & Claudia's "private" beach. This is an area on the beach where no one seems to be. Everywhere else it's crammed with people. We were the only people in the water there. Once revived we continued on our way.
Of course we had to have some sustenance after our endeavour so we stopped at our favourite beach bar where the locals go and our favourite waiter, Ricardo, brought us a margarita before we returned to the condo to check on Claudia. We decided to check out the temperature of the pool and cooled down again before going in.
Then the festivities started again and we enjoyed some Costco wine and a parade of food. They had been telling us about this cheese which is to die for - Oaxaca cheese (pronounced wahaka) - and we had fun playing with it before devouring it. Then out came shrimp & wings. Once we were all satiated we decided to call it a night. We have been staying up to the wee hours and needed to recharge.
Can't wait to see what's in store tomorrow…
