Everyone at work was talking about 'state of origin' today - some sort of sports event and after a nudge from my cousin about how it's a must see event I decided I must see it. But first I needed to google it & find out what it was! Turns out its some sort of rugby game between Queensland and neighbours New South Wales and it's the best of 3. Queensland won the first match, this was the second.
So on the way home I searched on Meet Up* for an event for State of Origin and found one taking place in the Stock Exchange Pub on Edward Street - and I must be getting to know Brisbane as I knew exactly where that was! I signed up & went along. I was a bit nervous at first, turning up & not knowing anyone, but soon got chatting to a few people and then a few more :)
The game was good - I think I cheered in the right places. Queensland won, apparently they usually do. I met some nice people who hopefully I'll see at future meet ups. They were telling me about their experiences with spiders & snakes - not sure I thought this whole moving to Australia thing through....
*Meet up is an online community of informal clubs and events organised by like minded people rather than formal organisations. They have them all over the world inc in the UK which is how I knew about it. I've signed up to a Brisbane hiking group, a photography group and some eating/drinking/social groups
