So we left Rotorua and before we had time to settle in on the bus we were stoping at Te Puia, which was a massive geothermal reserve. We had a wonder around this park, with a guided tour from a very witty and interesting Moari, who told us all about the volcanos in New Zealand and how the Geysers and hot bioling mud which we saw was nessersary for the slow realease of the volcanos gases instead of an eruption! He also told us old Moari tales and took us to a bird house where we saw the kiwi bird. It was nocturnal so no photo opertunities, but it was great to see beacuse unfortunatly they are a dying species, who have no defenses against dogs and rabbits. The Guide also showed us how the Moari's used to make rope out of the flax plant fibres - pretty clever stuff! We left Rotorua then for a short drive to Waitomo which is a tiny town but famous for its massive networks of caves with gloworms. Most of our friends did a three hour tour through the caves that afternoon, while greg had a rest and a drink at the pub and just did a walk through. It was amazing to see the glowworms which just looked like mini stars all over the ceiling. That night we had a brilliant time playing ring of fire and drinking rather alot, staying up so late we got starving and then having to eat stringy cheese. All together a brilliant evening with alot of laughter!
