Friday. There's this one bird I have been hearing since we arrived in Thailand and it makes THE most annoying loud noise, and once again this is what I woke up to. I'm still not sure what bird it is, but every time I hear it I can feel myself tense up. The other day I was wandering around a park trying to get closer to the noise to investigate what was making such a racket, but I never found out. Anyway, we got up and checked in to 'Ayutthaya youth hostel' which was round the corner from the first one, but we had already booked a while ago. We searched for somewhere to eat breakfast which is few and far between. There doesn't seem to be much going on anywhere. Whilst we were at breakfast my Mum and Auntie called us to give us the devastating news that our Grandad had passed away. It was a big shock, and not expected. He was so full of life and personality, and was still acting younger than his years. After a lot of tears and hugs we decided to spend the afternoon cycling down to the riverside and getting a picnic. We spotted a Heron next to the river and are pretty certain we saw a crocodile in the water, so Nick had us cycling round trying to spot another one. A Thai man asked me if I would have a selfie with him, which I found odd. We think it was my pale skin that interested him. A lot of the shower gels, deodorants and skin products in Thailand have whitener in as the people generally want lighter/paler skin, unlike at home where most people prefer to be tanned. It was a nice day and I found it really relaxing and it was a good place to think about my Grandad and my family back home. Both me and my sister were really teary all day though and I couldn't really enjoy myself. We are a really close family and my sister is like my best friend so I knew we would both be thinking the same thing, we definitely had to go home and be with the family. My Mum and Dad were due to fly out to us in a few days for a holiday in Thailand over Christmas which we couldn't expect them to do now. We headed to a ice cream parlour and me and Kirsty got an Oreo shake and called home again to sort out what we were doing next. Mum told us the funeral was looking like it would be the 21st December. We decided to fly home this Sunday when Kirsty's boyfriend was already flying back, so we could all head back to Bangkok airport together. After an emotionally draining day, we went out for some dinner at 'Tony's Place' and face timed my Mum, Auntie and our Cousins. The connection wasn't great but it was nice to briefly see them. We went over the road to a bar to listen to a local band that was playing, have a couple of drinks and play Pool. Me and Nick paired up against Lauren and Kirsty (and beat them). We were up to our usual tricks of winding up Nick for our entertainment, mostly about his accent. He made a phone call a few days ago to a Thai company and when they were asking him for his location he said "I don't know, I'm not from round here".. Which we all laughed at him for ever since, as he definitely didn't need to tell them he wasn't a local with that Brummie accent!.. On the way home we stopped at a 7/11 (a bit like a Spar or Co-op, they are everywhere in Thailand) on the way back to get some standard snacks, then went to bed.
