Wednesday 27th January.
When I woke up the guys had already checked out the room. Me and Kirsty had sore heads so we decided to have a beach day. We headed down to the beach which was a five minute walk and lay there most of the day. Kirsty went in the sea and came running back saying I needed to go and join her. I went down and the waves were huge, it was like a wave pool. The lifeguards were making announcements for people to stay in a certain area they had cornered off, and shouting at people going too far out. They had to go in a couple of times to help people back to shore, and we saw on the news one guy who was taken away by an ambulance for nearly drowning. We didn't go too far in but we were enjoying messing around in the waves and must have been in there at least an hour. The current was really strong and kept pulling my feet from under me so I eventually got tired of fighting it and lay back on the beach. We wandered to get a frozen ice drink and then when we got back the lifeguards were moving the flags and putting up signs for people to not swim or surf. We decided to head back to the hostel and got ready to go for a curry at the Indian restaurant around the corner. It was really nice but they were slow serving us. No one ever seems in a rush in Australia though, which is something we have learnt. By the time we got back I sat in the tv room talking to a guy from Manchester that we had seen around the hostel a lot, he was telling me about some good places to visit. I then booked us somewhere to stay for the next day in Brisbane as we didn't have anywhere at this point, we chose to go back to the YHA, as we stayed in one in Sydney and was good. After it was all done, I went to bed and couldn't wait to get to sleep.
