Friday 22nd January.
The sun woke us up at 7am because the camper van felt like an oven. We were both fuming, but got up and started the day. I went in to the centre on the bus on my own about 08:30. I was chatting to a local old lady at the bus stop who was really friendly. The people here seem to be a lot more approachable and friendly than they are at home which is comforting when you are so far away from home. I went to the Optus shop to get an Australian SIM card and paid $40 for unlimited minutes and texts to local numbers and 10GB of Internet and $10 worth of international calls. I spent a couple of hours walking around all the shops and then picked us up a subway to take back for lunch. We took advantage of the good weather and spent another afternoon by the pool. Although I spent half of it hiding under a parasol paranoid about getting sunburnt again but it was nice to be able to get in the pool if we wanted to to cool off. Once it got dark and we were showered and changed we thought it would be a good idea to head to Woolworth's to get some food in for dinner and breakfast. Kirsty drove the camper van and we were too busy in a deep discussion before she noticed we had gone in to a car park which was too low for the van, and crashed the roof of the van in to the ceiling of the car park, smashed the ceiling light and were now wedged there. I got out to assess the damage and we quickly realised she couldn't move forward or backwards so I was stopping the traffic from coming in the car park and also trying to look for help. An Australian man and his son came to the rescue. The three of us stood on the back of the van to weigh it down to free it from the ceiling and give us the space to reverse it out. We had squashed the two small dome vents on the van ceiling which now meant the rain could leak in, but other than that we managed to escape. We still stopped to get food from Woolworth's of course, before we went back and called our Dad to share our dramas as well as laughing about it at this point, because well, what else could we do?! We didn't eat until about 9 and I just had a lasagne. Kirsty was having an emotional day though and after the "incident" I think it all got on top of her and she was upset. We booked in a hostel for Sunday night for a break, then watched some more inbetweeners for we went to sleep.
