Saturday 23rd January.
It was another temperamental day with the weather, we didn't actually realise how unpredictable it could be in Australia in the summer. It reminds me of the times I've been to Orlando Florida and you get a day of sunshine with a random burst of tropical rain. Luckily we had things to be getting on with that meant it didn't matter what the weather was doing. We drove to find a car garage to access the damage to the van but everywhere was closed, which we found strange for a Saturday. We went to Bunnings (which is like the local B&Q) in hope that someone had an idea how we could protect the van from flooding. We ended up coming out of there with duct tape and heading to find the maintenance guy Josh on the campsite. He was laughing at us and saying we were trouble makers. He managed to get on the roof and tape down some bin bags over the two missing vents to stop the rain coming in. After all that, we decided it was time to sit and have some lunch and a drink. We made chicken fajitas in the kitchen and there was no where to sit. We spotted Cyril and Cyril, the Swiss guys from our surf trip in Byron Bay so we sat with them. They were with two other Swiss guys called Chris and Lucas. We all sat having a drink and chatting and ended up there for a couple of hours before me and Kirsty had to go and get ready for our bar crawl. We turned up at the beer garden bar about 18:30 because we heard there were free hot dogs! We were the first girls up there but we weren't afraid of that. Everyone else quickly followed. They were trying to give people 'traffic light' stickers to show whether they were single and taken, which I was cringing at and avoiding anyone handing out stickers. Kirsty was laughing at me, but agreed it was all a bit random. We had been promised we didn't have to join in any "forced fun" if we came on the bar crawl because we had literally just come to see the best bars in a group rather than going alone and didn't want to be playing any 18-30 style games. We headed to Vanity, Cocktails and then Sin City. Along the way we met a lot of people. In the first bar we got chatting to Mia who is from the UK but added us on Facebook and told us to contact her when we hit Brisbane to meet up for a drink. We met some Australian guys who were out for Nathan's 21st. We also met Daniel from Newcastle, who was chatting to two Australians, Kristof and Aaron who were cousins. Aaron ended up throwing up outside and getting his dad to pick him up, at which point Kristof left with him. I said to Kirsty and Daniel to pretend we weren't with him or we wouldn't get let back in the club. Haha. We carried on dancing and were with a girl from New Zealand for a bit before Daniel left because he had had enough to drink. We were slowly out partying everyone but then Nathan's friends had left him so he came back and was doing dance offs with me and Kirsty and said we had made his birthday 'heaps fun'! The three of us grabbed pizza from across the road once the bar closed and he left us to get our Uber. What we didn't realise was we sent the Uber to the wrong place so just ended up in a normal taxi and still getting a bill for the Uber we never got. Oops. We got back to the camp site about 4am and Kirsty was on the phone to her boyfriend so I walked ahead to the camper. As I walked passed Chris and Lucas's van I noticed the windows open and a light on so I wandered over. Lucas was sat up texting on his phone to his girlfriend so I went over to scare him. They both sat up chatting to me whilst I waited for Kirsty and were saying they wish they had come out on the bar crawl. I agreed to meet them for a pool morning the next day so they could laugh at my hangover, then I found Kirsty and went to sleep.
