Day 34 - 11th Feb - Up early to go white water rafting on the shotover river. Again into the attractive wet suit get up, although this time it was the 3 of us looking as good as each other! All of us were in a delicate state to say the least, not really a great idea, but i think almost everyone who came rafting was hungover! To get to the river we had to go on a bus along a very questionable cliff 'road' if that is what you can call it, dirt track on the side of a cliff more like! once we arrived safely (thank god) we were given our instructions of what to do and got into groups of 7, ours was the 3 of us and 4 other girls on Contiki with us who were all just as hungover as us or worse, i felt so sorry for our guide Jesse! we were complete liabilities, Jesse really had to keep his patients with us, as we spent most of the time gossiping, not to say he was not so impressed! Rafting was so funny, on the first rapid me and Daniela managed to fall out of the raft oops! Severe man overboard, think we may have scared Vicky a little bit she lost both of her traveling buddies in one go! Got rescued and went on after a little bit, then next rapid Ali another girl went overboard, hers was a bit scarier as we were in a pretty big rapid and just managed to hold onto her! Jesse not impressed! Quickly went back to the hotel to sort ourselves out before me and Vicky headed off to Skydive!!! Got a van to the jump site and i think as we were so busy in the morning neither of us had the really thought that we were actually going to be jumping out of a plane in the afternoon, i think in the van and waiting at the jump site to get ready to go was when the nerves hit a bit! Met our instructors and before we knew it we were in our jump suits and heading for the tiny little plane to go and do it (after a safety talk and instruction session before my mum gets worried)! The plane was so unbelievably small, there was 9 of us squeezed onto the plane, there was 3 jumpers, 3 instructors and 3 camera men, so we were sitting on our instructors laps! Plane ride was a little bumpy but so glad my instructor was so nice and just kept chatting to me, telling me to relax, enjoy the flight and that we would be going out first!!!!!! It was no time at all until we reached jumping height of 12,000 ft, then off the door went, we went onto the edge of the plane, legs had to tuck under the plane, head back on my instructors shoulders then off we went. we free fell for 7000ft which took about a minute but it felt like so much longer! i cant even begin to explain what it felt like, just that it was so amazing, it was an incredible feeling. the closest thing to compare it too it the feeling that you get when you stick your hand out of a car window as your driving really fast but all over your body, and it just doesnt feel like your falling at all! Even though everything happened so quickly, you still got to admire the views especially where we did it was around the Remarkables Mountain range and by the lake so beautiful. there was a jolt when the parachute opened, and we got to turn, spiral and float back down to the ground. Landing was so much fun, i even managed to land on my feet, it was all such a rush! Evening was a chilled night with dinner with a couple of the people from the tour in town. Busy but AMAZING day!
