Day 32 - 9th Feb - Glacier Walking!! Such an amazing day, we went to fox glacier town centre today, ready to do our 'Fox Trot' glacier walking. Got to the centre to be kitted up for our 4hr hike, looked very attractive doing the walk. we were given some rather fetching walking boots, thick socks and crampons. once we got everything we were dropped off at the bottom of Fox Glacier and began the hike, the first part of the hike was through rainforest up the side of the mountain and the glacier. we did such a beautiful walk, although it is one of the weirdest walks as Fox Glacier is one of the only glaciers that you have to walk through rainforest to get to, consequently you go through a number of climate changes etc. Once we got to the top of the glacier it was amazing, stepping a couple of metres from rainforest onto ice. we ad to attach our crampons onto our boots which means that we wont fall on the ice, they are little spikes that stick to the ice from our boots. the ice was amazing we got to walk around on it for about an hour, although it wasn't exactly what i imagined, it was really quite a rough terrain (if that is the right word) and the ice wasn't as clear as i thought it would be. it was actually a bit dirty, it also had loads of little holes and cracks running through it. its really hard to explain but it was such an amazing experience a definate thing that everyone should do! After the hike back we were straight back onto the coach to head to Queenstown. Had a quick tour of Queenstown once we got there, then had a little time to settle into our room in the lodge which has an amazing view of the lake and the mountain ranges the Remarkables. Evening we had a group meal at the Skyline Restaurant, amazing views but even better food! After the meal we headed into the town for some drinks, to some bars, went to World bar which serves all there cocktails in teapots!
