Day 52: despite the previous nights antics we managed to get up early in time to get breakfast, get packed and make on time to catch the bus down to tulum. The bus is pretty cheap and only takes a couple of hours. We arrived in tulum mid afternoon so after checking into our hostel we still had time to make down to the beach. Everything in tulum is fairly spread out and the best way to get around is by bike so we hired some from our hostel any cycled down to the beach. Tulum had an incredible beach, apparently one of the best in Mexico! We stayed here for the day and got dinner on the beach, then cycled back to the hostel.
Day 53: after a lie in in our private little cabana we hopped on the bikes again and cycled down to the tulum ruins site. This site is right on the coast a top a cliff edge, it's a beautiful area. This site was used by the mayans as a port and trading post. There are a few intact temples and other buildings on the site. After spending the morning exploring the site we cycled up to a shopping outlet and got some lunch there and had a look round the shops, we treated ourselves to some rip off ray bans! Then spent the rest of the day at the beach and to save some money made dinner at the hostel.
Day 54: today we just had a day of relaxation and spent most of the day at the beach and booked a snorkelling tour for tomorrow.
Day 55: we were up early ready for our pick up for our snorkelling tour, we were picked up by our guide David at 8:30 and picked up another two guests on the way. Our first stop on the tour was the two eyed Cenote (a Cenote is an enterance in to the under round cave and river system that travels all across the yucutan peninsula). As we arrived early we were the only people there apart from a few scuba divers who's torch lights we could seen beaming through the under ground tunnels. We snorkelled around the Cenote and David took us through a small opening into a completely pitch black cave called the bat cave for the obvious reasons! We had torches so could see all the amazing stalagmites stalactites that had formed over thousands of years, it was amazing! After the Cenote we drove down to a beach outside tulum where we were promised we would see sea turtles but we didn't expect to see as many as we did and so close to shore. We literally walked off the beach and a few meters off sure met our first sea turtle. We list count of how many we seen and some them were huge almost 2 meters long! We stopped for a traditional Mayan lunch and then made our last stop on the tour, a quiet lagoon where we had free time to snorkel around. The lagoon was filled with tropical fish we even saw a barracuda! It wad a great day and our guide David was brilliant, he took some great photos and added them to Facebook for us.
Day 56: today we caught the bus down to chetumal, we stayed here for one night before we got the boat over to belize!
