Lin & Phil - Out and About in the Big World...
Man this islands infastructure is slightly worse than we expected - the main road is a jungle dirt road and the buses are so irregular. We managed to eventually go 70km\'s up the coast to our destination - Sabang - in just over 3 hours in a vehicle thats like a stretched Jeep - think theres about 16 seats in it but i counted over 40 people sitting in it, on the roof and hanging outside - youve got the picture! WE even had a few puppies, a few chickens and everything but the kitchen sink onboard! quite an experience.
Whilst in Sabang we went to the largest underground river in the world. This was awesome. We were allowed to go 1.5km\'s into it with our guide and we were constantly surrounded by bats and swallows. Lin managed to relax after a while and get used to the bats, luckily none decided to have a rest in our little boat. Theyres all sorts of weird shaped stalagtites and stalagmites resembling flowers, vegetables, the 3 kings, faces, virgin mary and falaces etc etc. It was unbelievably dark when we turned our guide light off and we would have been screwed without it - we didnt have a reserve! On the way back we caught sight of a pretty big monitor lizard which came very close but some bloody local scared it off! Weve not had access to a telephone or the internet for ages so its good to be connected to the outside world again! Pictures to be uploaded soon.
