After a short journey we arrived in Townsville, as the bus pulled up to the bus stop we all got very excited as our friends (Sammy, Liz etc) were there to greet us from the bus! It was like returning home and seeing family!!!
The first afternoon in Townsville was spent catching up on everyones travels before the nights festivities. The night kicked off with a new game which we have learnt since being in Australia! Basically goon (cheap wine) comes in a cardboard box, the top layer of the cardboard box is ripped off and you have to pick the box up with your teeth, no hands allowed to touch the floor. Each round the box got shorter and shorter, we learnt just how flexible a 6ft 4 guy in jeans can be, the giant of the group won!! After some drinking in the hostel and annoying the neighbours who were shouting at us we headed out on the town. Townsville doesnt have much to offer by way of clubs but we made our own fun and it was great catching up with our long lost family!
The following day, Jo gave us all a guided tour of Townsville which consisted of visiting a childs water park. We all had a great time here standing underneath a bucket which fills up with water and then pours out over your head! After we had finished playing we headed to the rockpool which is a man made pool. It was nice but very salty, again the kids came out of us when we was jumping and bombing off of a ledge into the pool. The evening consisted of a chill out with a chinese and tv!
The following day we said a sad farewell to our family and boarded the ferry to Magnetic Island! We docked up in magnetic island and hired a car, we was expecting a long tour of the island. We checked in at the hostel and was ready for our road trip! The road trip, from one end of the island to another took all of 15 minutes! Disappointing but we saw some amazing views on the way! First stop was horseshoe bay which is the picture for this blog where we had a little paddle! We was all a bit too scared to swim as a crocodile had been spotted lurking around the coast! After our paddle we went on a trek through the jungle looking for koalas in the wild! We have discovered that we are very bad at this game and managed to spot no koalas of our own. We just about managed to see the ones which people were pointing at! Jo had a near death experience when she fell face first to the floor, its ok though she managed to save her sandwhich which she was holding! After koala hunting we went wallaby hunting! Our family which departed us that morning told us that they all come out onto the beach and sit in the rocks at a place called alma bay! I think we are very unfortunate or just blind as we managed to spot no wallabies either! Very disheartened we headed back to the hostel and drowned our sorrows with some very cheap goon!!
