After our last night in Cairns, we had a very hungover journey down to Mission Beach(could not turn down the 5 drinks for $10!). Once we had arrived to one of the best hostels we have seen so far, we all slept to get rid of the hangovers!Once refreshed, we got talking to the hostel owners who convinced us to book a skydive/white water rafting package!!!We also got told to go to Dunk Island(opposite Mission Beach) so that was the plan for tomorrow!
We got a water taxi over to Dunk Island which was beautiful, but similar to the beach we just left so we felt a bit mugged off!!It was a nice day full of sunbathing and chilling out before our adventurous few days ahead of us!We got told to not drink before skydiving so it was like our rehab-early nights for all!!
The day had finally arrived to jump out of a plane 14,000 feet in the air!!We were all absolutly petrified but glad we could all do it together-NOT THE CASE! We arrived at the place where u get the plane from and was told that we can only go up in 2's and one single as there was not enough cameramen to all go together!Jo stepped up to the mark and offered to go on her own and before we knew it, Panda and Katherine were all strapped up ready to go!Jordan, Tom and Jo waved goodbye to our friends, fearing for their lives!Next was Tom and Jordan, then jo on her own(but made a skydiving buddy called Sarah so was no longer alone!). Sitting on the miniture plane, watching the ground move away from us was scary-you think your high then you realise your only 5000 feet!!!Once you had reached 14,000 feet, you had no time to be scared! Before you knew it, your sitting on the edge and thrown out by your tandem! The views are absolutly amazing-falling over the beach, sea and rainforest. We were falling at 120 miles per second which is the most awesome feeling!!Once the freefall had stopped, the parachute went up and we could really appreciate the views! Our tandems allowed us to steer the parachute which was cool! After 4 minutes your back on your feet on the beach and want to go up and do it again!!!The most amazing thing we have all done so far!!Out of this world!
Back at the hostel we would not shut up-telling everyone who would listen about our skydives!Soon enough, the DVD's arrived which are brilliant! After such an intense day, we were all exhausted so bed time it was ready for white water rafting!
Another early start and off we went to the River Tully to be adrenilin junkies again!Jordan and Panda were petrified but once they went over the first few rapids they were loving it! Our instructer was brilliant-one of the best there so we all felt safe in his hands! Some of the rapids were scarier than the others-a lot of screaming from our raft! In calm waters we all got in the river and floated gently on our backs, although some of the mini rapids are stronger than you think, sweeping us in the wrong direction sometimes! After a yummy BBQ lunch, we descended for one of the scariest rapids- the one where they make you come out your boat!As we fell down, half the boat managed to stay on, whereas Jo and Katherine came out. Katherine swam to safety whereas Jo was a bit more troubled, struggling to breath and trapped between a rock and the boat. But never fear when Super Pandas around!!She pulled a petrified jo to saftey and we carried on with the rest of the rapids. All in all a very fun day out. In the evening the hostel provided us with a free BBQ which was lovely and we sat round drinking with 2 people we met in our room(rehab didn't last long!).
