Ayutthaya - the ancient capital of Thailand. You can't swing a rat without hitting a Buddhist Wat.
Unfortunately, the journey to Ayutthaya was only possible in a 3rd class train. We were worried but it turned out the train wasn't too bad; we've been on worse British trains. Anyway the 2 hour journey only cost us 25p.
We arrived at Ayutthaya train station and we were completely lost, luckily a tuk tuk driver came to our rescue and said he would take us anywhere ("with no shopping") for 50p. The hotel we wanted to go to (Tony's Place) was full and he promised to take us to "a very nice, very clean hotel, not in your guidebook because it is new" - we were unsure but took the risk. It turned out the hotel he took us to was really nice and also cheap. He was an honest Thai.
He then offered to take us around the sights to see his favourite Wats. We agreed, it sounded good. First we went to Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, very impressive - surrounded by 100 buddahs. After lots of photos he took us to Wat Phra Mahathat - this seemd really old and all the buddah's had no heads - the Burmese had invaded.
He took us back to the hotel an we took a photo to remember him and his Tuk Tuk.
