In San Pedro de Atacama we booked a 3 day jeep tour of the Bolivian Altiplano, starting from Chile and crossing the border on the first day. On the first morning of the tour we found out the border between Chile and Bolivia was closed because of heavy snow the day before. Even though San Pedro de Atacama is a town in the middle of the driest desert on the planet and even though it is only meant to rain for two days per year (in March) on our second day in the town it rained on us. It's a nice place though with nice restaurants and Chile's best museum with real mummies in boxes and a 7 foot high cactus in the garden. The only problem I had was that it was so dusty I had a constant itchy throat and painful eyes. Aidan.
