The journey to Ubud should only have taken us 1 hour but we hired a little man to take us on an exploratory tour of Bali! Our first stop was Batun where we watched a Barong Dance, which was quite entertaining. Then he took us on a shopping marathon for silver, paintings and woodwork. Aidan was tempted by a huge monkey wood carving then he learnt it cost £2000.
Ubud has loads of ultra cool restaurants, which were completely empty! We had some excellent Italian food and my favourite place was the Bali Buddha because they had chocolate brownies, yum yum!
One day we hired bikes to explore the paddy fields. The heat was immense and we felt like we'd done a great workout.I rode faster than Aidan and he claimed that was because he had a heavy bike. I think its because I am fitter than him.
I found a beauty salon in Bali and treated myself to a Mandi Sus (relaxing deep tissue and muscle massage followed by a traditional Javanese body peel and scrub, a yoghurt body mask and a bath scented with tropical flowers). I was there for hours and it only cost about £4! The next day I went back and had my hair done very blonde! I think Aidan loved the time to himself, this was the first time we'd been apart!
We did a cookery course at Bumbu Bali (one of Bali's finest restaurants). We visited the markets, bought ingredients then made 8 dishes! I loved the fact we got an apron to take home with us. Aidan just loved eating the food.
In Ubud there is a monkey forest, which is full of monkeys (stating the obvious). We thought this would be interesting so went for a wander. One of the monkeys decided to climb up my back! I screamed and all the other tourists went running out of the forest. I didn't like the monkey forest.
Katie.
