After a nice sleep in this morning, we took a drive over to Coffin Bay, home of the oysters that we often see on seafood menus in restaurants around Australia. In the Coffin Bay National Park, we stopped first at Templetonia Lookout with superb views to many of the surrounding islands. We then drove out to Yangie Bay Campground for a look - it was pretty quiet with nobody camping today probably given the heat. We drove back over to Point Avoid to a nice lookout, then onto Almonta Beach for a lovely swim in the clear waters - so refreshing in the 40 degree heat of today, but the sand was scorching hot!
It was great to cool off, but we wanted to see more, so we took a drive over to the Golden Island Lookout and beach and found it to be a bit breezier, with easier access to the car, so spent some time there with a great swim and some beaut waves. Our friends the Prelc family had spent last night in the Lincoln National Park, and were also going to be out this way for a look, so they came over to the Golden Island Beach and all the children had a great time in the surf with the boards and surf mats. Trudie's instruction was great as both Renee & Eamon have improved their surfing skills. The water was pristine, clear and so refreshing on such a hot day.
Around 4pm we departed, and regrouped back at the Port Lincoln Hotel - the Prelc's are now going a different route to us towards Sydney, so we had a lovely seafood dinner for our send off. Our time with them has been absolutely fantastic and we have plans to catch up in the near future. Renee & Zoe have had a ball perfecting their acro moves, Eamon & Sam have enjoyed doing boy things such as jousting, Dad & Joe have loved comparing wheel bearings and petrol usage, Mum & Trudie have compared notes on a myriad of things that mums discuss!
Back at the caravan park (whose owner is related to owners of Makybe Diva who won 3 Melbourne Cups), we enjoyed some time down at the jetty watching a fantastic full moon rise from the ocean. Many people were out fishing, though nobody was catching anything!
