After packing up this morning, we departed Port Lincoln and headed to Port Augusta. An uneventful day, except for the temperature which was above 40 degrees most of the time. We stopped for morning tea at a nice little town called Cowell that had a bit of breeze off the water, and then briefly for lunch at the Whyalla National Park, where it was cooler inside the van than outside, which is quite unusual. Whyalla is a very, very industrial town with a distinct brown colour on everything - it was so dry (and of course hot) - even the golf course was brown.
As soon as we arrived at Port Augusta where it was about 43 degrees, we quickly set up and headed for the pool and just stayed there for about 2 hours until the sun began to go down. And we noticed that Renee's bike had come undone during the trip somehow - it was lucky to have not fallen off somewhere on the Lincoln Highway! Finally, a southerly arrived with gusto, and we went into town for supplies (it was still 38 degrees at 7.30pm however). It was strange, as we remembered the last time we were here it was in the first week of our big trip, back in July. We came home for a nice dinner and watched the tennis and cricket and kept our eyes on the bushfires particularly in Victoria as we are heading south-west tomorrow.
