Kicked off today with a visit to the Woomera Missile Park which has very interesting artefacts from the rocket launching days! Very straight drive ahead of us to Coober Pedy - couple of stops and sights along the way including Island Lagoon, Lake Hart, Glendambo. Renee & Eamon cooked us a great bacon & egg breakfast this morning, and then we were on our way. The road from Hawker to Port Augusta was quite different to the usual - nice winding bends over and under the railway and very scenic. We had a very long stop at Port Augusta to stock up on food, water, petrol etc for the next few days. Wow - what a big day. We started with the 50km drive to Wilpena Pound via some great lookouts of the Southern Flinders Ranges. On arrival at Wilpena, we did the Old Homestead Walk which is a nice pleasant walk to the gap in the Pound. We added on the Wangarra Hill Trek which was quite steep, but well worth the effort with views into the pound and out through the gap. About an 8km trek all up. Quick round of putt putt golf prior to our departure from Peterborough. Stopped at a lovely town called Orroroo - we got supplies, and stopped at the Lion's Park near the golf course for lunch. Took our time leaving Broken Hill this morning - we felt as though we'd gotten to know the place after our 3-night stay. Morning tea was at Bell's Milk Bar for a yummy soda, then we made our way towards South Australia! Quick stop at Manna Hill for lunch and back on the road.
