The bus journey (12hours) overnight wasn't the greatest experience! Nevertheless it saved wasting daylight hours and accommodation costs. I met up with Dan and Ali late morning and we headed for Sydney harbour to see the iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, of which I took numerous photos.
Then a ferry across to Manly. We were lucky with the weather and although there was a cool breeze it was a beautiful day. So we laid down by the beach and fell asleep for about an hour (a good way to top up the tan) and then I had no choice, of course, but to get a nice pear cider by the water and make the most of it. Back at the harbour in the evening we waited for the sunset behind the bridge, but unfortunately it wasn't as spectacular as I had thought it would be.
Day 2 in Sydney I took a walk to Darling Harbour, where there was lots if different things going on. Including boat races, Chinese celebrations and markets. In the evening I took a free city tour, like in Melbourne, around the harbour area, known as the rocks. The tour guide told us about the history of the area when Britain colonised it in the late 1700s, including the oldest breweries, pubs and criminal activity within the area, including murders. It was a great way to see the city and get a feel for how Sydney would have been.
