After a ten and a half hour bus journey from Sydney I arrived at my surf camp, spot x, an hour before dinner. I spent the first evening eating, drinking and sitting around the camp fire.
Up bright and early the next day for my surf lesson, which was at 9am. Having never surfed before in my life I was pretty convinced I wouldn't be able to stand up, but I stood up straight away, once the instructor had helped me catch the wave, which incidentally is the hardest thing. I was lucky that there were only two of us in the lesson, apparently this doesn't happen very often, the groups are pretty big. It meant I got more practice in. After lunch I spent the evening relaxing on the beach.
It was Halloween and the staff at the camp all dressed up, the guests however didn't, all being poor backpackers. It was like being at two different parties at once.
Day two; up again for another surf lesson at 9am. This time the group was bigger and I was left more so to my own devices. Struggling to catch a wave on my own was pretty frustrating and exhausting. Nevertheless, I managed to stand by the end and I have to say surfing is definitely a great hangover cure :-)
