We have had a lovely day in Port Douglas. We have decided against going off to the Great Barrier Reef which we may or may not regret. The weather has been quite windy which could make a whole day at sea quite uncomfortable as there is no shelter. I think we saw some amazing fish and coral in the Whitsundays and a lady on that trip had done diving on the Great Barrier Reef but reckoned she saw just as much in the Whitsundays so taking into account choppy seas, cost and distance to the reef we decided to stay on land.
It was nice to explore the town a bit more . The town is on a peninsula with a four mile stretch of beach on one side and marina and river inlet on the other. Graham found a geocaching trail to keep us amused it took to all the viewpoints, places that has some amazing houses, a beautiful palm lined foreshore where you could pick Mangoes that were falling from the trees and a rocky headland which was more like Cornwall with waves crashing over the rocks.
We swam in the warm sea, inside the stinger net, and for a short time I even read my book by the pool, and realised that's what people do on their holidays, anyway that didn't last long as we hadn't finished the trail.
With the Melbourne Cup over for another year the town is much quieter than yesterday.
Still no Cassowaries and despite warnings about freshwater and saltwater crocodiles, none were seen.

Andrew Le Good The trip sounds amazing! Down to 3 degC and sleety today here so decided not to go sailing (not quite Whitsunday like)!
