Hey!
It is freezing here in Beunos Aires! We have our thermals on all the time!
So what have we been up to... well we went watch a big football game which took place just outside of Beunos Aires in La Plata. It was the cup final of a a Brazil team against an Argentina team. The score was 0-0 which was disappointing considering it was my first football match. It was a great experience though apart from getting burnt by flares and being squashed in a sea of fans. It`s funny how the security won`t let people take plastic water bottles in, but fans manage to smuggle in fireworks. They set them off just behind us and AJ got is neck and hand burnt and I got my head burnt. We are now covered in small holes! Our tickets were in the general area which seemed fine when we first arrived... just rows of concrete seats really which gave us room to stand or sit. That`s until we discovered that the booking office sells 2 tickets for every seat in the general area and we couldn`t sit down as we had a row of people standing immediately behind and in front of us. Health and safety came to mind a few times! Even the walkways were full of people. It wouldn`t put me off going to a match again though... the atmosphere was amazing and we managed to learn some of the Spanish chants by the end of the game.
Today we walked to a suburb called La Recoleta. We visited the cemetery where Evita is buried which was the most magnificant and freaky graveyard I have ever been to. All the coffins were actually above the ground and some of them had even come open with old age so you could see inside.
Anyway, I have posted some more photos. We have just been taking it easy and keeping warm (especially after catching a cold). Went to the dentist here to get my tooth checked and a clean... when I get back to the UK, I am definately changing my dentist to a private! The scale and polish was amazing! She actually flossed my teeth! I got some mouthrinse to help with the pain but have a wisdom tooth coming through so there`s not much she could do. We ended up buying an electric toothbrush so I can keep my teeth super clean... so much for backpacking!
AJ still can`t get over how cheap everything is here. He keeps re-checking the exchange rate! Did you know it works out to be 20p to get anywhere by bus, about 2 quid for all our taxi journeys and 10 quid for a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine (total cost for 2 people). This is the place to come on your city breaks!
Ok... well we are off to get some tea. Its about 8.30pm so all the restaurants will finally be open! Still not had a steak yet... apparently some of the best steaks in the world are here. AJ`s birthday is next week so might treat him to one.
