Woke up this morning to a much better Therese. She said that she felt ok and had none of the symptoms from the past few days. But now what. Now she has a problem with her wisdom tooth... Therese ALWAYS has some kind of medical problem.
But at least she feels a lot better now! She's been stuck inside for the past 3 days and finally feels like she can venture out.
A bit of bonjela will sort her wisdom tooth out.
Anyway, we had a good sleep in this morning and managed to get ourselves up to breakfast at about 11.30! Sausage and egg butty for me...dry toast for Therese.
We were going to have a relaxed hour or two around the pool, but that plan was scuppered when the family staying here invited another family up from town. 3 kids running around, in and out the pool, then 2 babies crying - hardly a relaxing environment. We were looking out for one of the babies more than the mother! Flipping hippy.
We've decided to stay here yet another night because the price of the flight to Phuket has gone up from £56 to £89 each. So we're booked in here until 1st December now, and we've booked the flight. Gives Therese time to recover for the elephant ride too!
We got John to take us into town to see Emma and Beth off as they went to Laos today at 4. Also, Therese hasn't even really seen town other than when we first arrived, so we thought we'd spend a few hours out. We had a wander down to the river - there's plenty of nice little places to chill out, have a beer and read or something.
After saying goodbye to the girls, we went to get Therese her first meal. Plain baked potato. We'll see how she goes with that for now. Need to save some cash too, we spent too much on medication for Therese...just kidding!
Whilst we were waiting for the street Market to start up, we went into an Internet cafe to get some pictures uploaded to Facebook. We even got to have a video call with Miss Kirsty Nettleton! It was a bit of a bad connection, but we did manage to get it kind of working. It was delayed and we couldn't always hear each other, but Kirsty did manage to show us all the snow, as well as what is up her nose...
This place totally changes at night, it really comes alive. There's loads of little Market stalls set up on the street and outside shops. There's lots of clever little handmade things and some quite funky little stalls. And the actual street and buildings on it are very quaint and it's all nicely lit up. It's really bustling with tourists too, but it's not full of westerners, it's mostly Thai or people from other Asian countries. It's not full of fake stuff like North Face bags or copy DVDs etc, it's a bit like Luang Prabang in Laos. The people don't nag you to buy things either!
There's lots of street food too. I had these potato rings on a skewer, which were fried and then had some BBQ powder sprinkled on top. Quite nice but a bit greasy. Then I had a BBQ beef skewer which was good. Then a chicken kebab in fresh mini naan (like the ones you get at the take away in Bradford, but with this one you don't have to be drunk to eat it). That was absolutely lovely. Tasted really good, but could've eaten a couple more. We looked around a bit more and then I had desert. Homemade rum and raisin ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone - nice! It's all pretty cheap too per "dish".
I felt bad eating all that food in front of Therese and she was drooling a bit, but I've got to eat haven't I? I'm a growing lad.
We'd had a good wander around and Therese was lacking energy (but has done pretty well considering how ill she was and she hasn't eaten that much) so we rang John and Gaynor to organise a lift home and fortunately they were already in town. We got back and sat up around the pool area. I cracked open a beer, Therese cracked open a chicken soup.
John and Gaynor seem to love having guests around and we just sat chatting with them.
Next thing we heard this loud noise that sounded like a bird, but they told us it was actually a Tokay Gecko. It was coming from inside their house and the next thing we heard this crash onto broken tiles in their bathroom (they're redecorating) and then the gecko was scurrying around. John decided he was going to catch it...
5 minutes later, he came back with this gecko, wrapped in a towel with it's mouth really gripping onto part of it. It was quite big, maybe a foot long and they change colour depending on how they feel...this one had big red spots because it was pretty pissed off! I didn't have my camera!! But Therese had her iPhone so I took a picture. John then got under the light and I took another but it still wasn't that good so I tried to get a bit closer and the thing jumped...leaving it's tail behind in John's hand!! And then it started to run towards Therese and Gaynor so they were jumping around. All the while, the gecko's tail was still wiggling around in John's hand!! I got a bit of video on Therese's iPhone of it.
We all felt bad for the little gecko, but John had to get it out as they make a really loud mating call! They'd already been woken up the past few nights by it. Good thing is they eat things like scorpions and centipedes.
Think Therese is going to be able to get out and see a bit more tomorrow! Roll on tomorrow.
Also, I'm only going to put photos onto Facebook from now on, not on this site. Keep an eye on the message board for links to the Facebook albums. You don't need a Facebook account to view the album - take a look at my post on the message board now for more info.
