Alarm was set for 7.20am this morning to go for a free trip with John to the local Market where all the hill tribe people come down to, every wednesday, to get their supplies.
Therese wasn't well though, she'd been up a few times during the night so wanted to stay in bed. She's got a bit of a headache, and a bit of a temperature and running to the toilet a lot. Best for her to rest in bed.
It was very foggy this morning and pretty cold still. But apparently the day often starts like this and then the sun burns though by 10. Better do...
There wasn't that much going off at the Market, not that many hill-tribe people there really, but it was still interesting to see the local Market. Especially seeing the donated charity clothes being sold!! And they were being sold from the back of a big fancy brand new pick up truck...
Whilst we were out, John took me into town to get a thermometer to check Therese's temperature.
We grabbed a quick coffee in Wawee's as well - very good coffee. I went in with Dave and Bex and their kids as they'd told me it was one of the best.
Last night, we were talking to John and Gaynor about Emma and Beth, who we met in Chiang Mai, wanting to stop at their place. They'd been in touch with us on Facebook and said they wanted to come up to Pai, and had booked their mini-bus up here but not accommodation. John and Gaynor don't have any room but recommended somewhere for them to stay called Unicorn. Whilst we were in town, John went around to Unicorn to book the accommodation for Emma and Beth as they were coming up today. I didn't even know he was going to do it right then. He's a very helpful person - booking accommodation for someone he's never met and he's not even getting anything out of it (no, he definitely does not get commission). He's not put any money down, just made a verbal agreement and they can't confirm until 1pm either.
We weren't out long and as soon as we got back I checked Therese's temperature. It wasn't actually bad, only at 37.5 Celsius. She still really wasn't feeling well though - running to the toilet a lot.
I left Therese in bed and went to relax in the hammock for a while. I love hammocks! So relaxing. Its nice to just lay there having nothing to do other than admire the scenery. This place we're staying at is lovely. Set in really nice grounds and you can see all the hills/mountains around us, then the rice fields are just in front and a lake over the otherside. The infinity pool looks very tempting in this heat too!
Had muesli with yoghurt and fruit for late breakfast again. It's slowly taking over Kellogg's Crunchy Nut as my favourite healthier breakfast option! English fry-up is obviously number 1.
I didn't realise, but John and Gaynor had been out into town again and also booked the room for the girls with a deposit. So helpful.
Most of today has just been lounging around in hammocks or around the pool, as well as checking up on Therese, making her drink water! Got her onto those rehydration salts as well now!
John and Gaynor wanted to go down and help Emma and Beth get to their accommodation, so we set off down at about 3pm as they think the girls should arrive by about 3.30pm. We sat in a bar close by to the mini-bus station and had a beer there. Wasn't long before a mini-bus passed by so I went down to the station to check if they were on it. And they were. John had given me the key to the pick up so we threw their bags inside the front and went back to the bar for a drink with John and Gaynor.
After that we took them to their accommodation which wasn't bad - little bamboo bungalows and in town.
We then all drove up to our place as they wanted to check out our new crib and see how Therese was.
Can't believe how John and Gaynor do all this running around for two people that aren't even their guests.
They went back an hour later including Dave, Bex and the kids to get tea some tea. I stayed back with Therese then we went up to the pool area to watch TV. She still feels ill, but there's no TV in the room and she's really bored - best not to be laid in the pit all day and night either.
Before they went I asked them to get some grub for us. I'd read that the old saying was to "Feed a Cold and Starve a Fever", but now they say there's a few basic foods to stick to when you have a fever. BRAT - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce (!?), Toast. There's other things like dried noodles. Also, yoghurt with good bacteria in. No dairy products though. That's what I've read on a few UK medical websites anyway.
So, Therese ordered some boiled rice and I ordered...a pizza!
A good film was on too, Blood Diamond. It was nice sitting outside watching TV - got a little nippy though.
They got back a couple of hours later - I was starving by that time! And my pepperoni pizza had a flipping fried egg in the middle! What's that all about!? We sat chatting for a bit before calling it a night and heading back to our bungalow. We've also decided to stay here for another 4 nights, until Tuesday. Hopefully Therese will be better soon, then it gives us chance to maybe get a couple of activities done like going out with the elephants and visiting the hot springs, plus having a look around town.
Therese was straight asleep - hopefully she's better in the morning.
I sat writing blogs - I can here all the crickets and birds outside...
(don't forget to change the date at the top. I'm putting 4 posts up today for Pai)
