Up and away at 8am to make our way over to the west coast, to a surf place called Raglan.
We made it to our cool backpackers camp at around 2pm, which is about a 15 minute drive outside of Raglan centre. It's sort of set on the side of a bit of a hill in a woodland area and has a view of the sea. Although, it's still a 10 minute car journey from here to the beach. We got a four-bed cabin to share again and the rooms were a bit more spacious than last nights.
We didn't do too much in the afternoon other than chill out and chat with some of the other guys on the bus. Played some Fussball as well - I was the champion. They have like a big barn shed that's got seating and a free fussball table - sweet as (which is what the kiwis say about everything)!
We opted to go on a boat cruise and set off for that at about 5.30pm. It only cost $29 (£15) each including a BBQ. We got onto a really nice boat - looked pretty new and had a big seating area on the top deck for us all. It's a river mouth to the sea so we sort of just cruised around the river area which was nice but it was cloudy. They sold drinks too, which weren't too bad at $5 (£2.50) a bottle. Had some new beers: Lion Red; and Waikati. Both nice.
We'd been waiting for this BBQ for hours, and was starving. Couldn't believe it when we got a hot dog and a bag of crisps!! To be fair, it was a big Bratwurst sausage, but still, that isn't what we expected from a BBQ! Especially seeing as we paid $9 (£4.50) for it and last night our driver did a $10 (£5) full BBQ. We actually just laughed at first. Our driver has been useless so far really and we missed another scenic stop today (some waterfalls!), then he told us we were having a BBQ!
I really enjoyed it actually, it was lovely. But Therese didn't want it so just got a refund.
We cruised around a bit more and then pulled up for a swim. We'd already been told to bring our swim stuff as we might get chance to jump in for a swim. Everyone was hesitant at first because it was cloudy and not that warm at all really. Me and Therese were up for it, then a couple of others plus Dean. We got changed in the fancy boat toilets, then went back up to the top deck - people were looking at us as if we were stupid! They asked who wanted to jump in first and again everyone was hesitant, then Therese trotted off to the front. Before we knew it, she was stood on the side of the boat on the top deck and jumped in! It was fairly high actually. I jumped in and seemed to drop down into the water quite far. It was quite warm in the water though. Expected it to be freezing. We jumped off a few times and had a bit of a swim around. Shame it wasn't sunny.
The cruise was ok, nothing too special. Not bad for £10 anyway.
When we got back, we had to sort out a few things with our bus for the next few days, and some of the activities we're going to be doing. So no drinking or spoon game tonight!
